AMEGY BANK OF TEXAS REVEALS 20 HOUSTON AREA CHARITIES SELECTED TO RECEIVE $1,000 GAS GRANTS
Bank provides summer relief for nonprofit agencies faced with high gas prices.
Twenty local nonprofit agencies each received $1,000 gasoline grants funded by Amegy Bank of Texas. The grants will be used to purchase a total of 5,780 gallons of gasoline that will help provide services to more than 5,350,823 people in the Houston region, said Paul Murphy, Amegy Bank of Texas CEO.
Many charities rely on buses, vans and cars to deliver their services to individuals who are in need. Amegy Bank created this gasoline grant program in response to reports that charities were faced with the hard decision of reducing services or going over their budgets. The grant program is intended to assist nonprofit agencies which have significant driving demands, such as those which operate traveling health clinics, deliver meals to the homebound, and rescue women and children from abusive situations.
The following charities were selected to receive $1,000 gasoline grants.
Bay Area Homeless Services
The Bridge Refuge for Women
Bridgewood Farms
Camp for All
Casa de Esperanza
Chinese Community Center
Community Family Centers
Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston
End Hunger
Escape Family Resource Center
Families Under Urban & Social Attack
Fifth Ward Enrichment Program
The Gathering Place
Hester House
Memorial Assistance Ministries
Open Door Mission
St. James House
TOMAGWA Healthcare Ministries
Village Learning & Achievement Center
The Women’s Home
Although Amegy will be providing $1,000 grants, many nonprofits are still in need of assistance.
"Considering the overwhelming number of applications that we received, our local nonprofit agencies are clearly in need of financial support to help battle the current gas prices," he said. "While $20,000 is a start to help these agencies, they are desperately in need of more aid. I strongly urge my fellow business leaders to consider increasing their donations at this critical time."
This new initiative builds on Amegy Bank’s commitment to the community. Last year, the bank contributed approximately $1.4 million through more than 800 donations throughout Greater Houston.
