Supporting Our Local Senior Citizens Community
Local organizations are being severely impacted by COVID-19. Learn how Meals on Wheels is continuing to support the senior community and how Amegy Bank is supporting their cause.
The effects of COVID-19 has impacted so many of our local organizations and communities, including our senior community. Many of these charitable organizations had to cancel or postpone their spring fundraising events. Interfaith Ministries is just one of many organizations that have seen the impact on the communities they serve. For their annual gala, they were challenged with finding a creative and unique solution for their gala donors – a meals on wheels dine-in experience with livestream entertainment. Approximately 330 virtual gala attendees received a three-course dinner, provided by Amegy Bank and prepared by Chef John Guimond of Amegy Tower’s Yvonne’s Café. Proceeds from the galas are vital for Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels program.
About Meals on Wheels America:
Meals on Wheels America is the leadership organization supporting the more than 5,000 community-based programs across the country that are dedicated to addressing senior isolation and hunger. By providing funding, leadership, education, research and advocacy support, Meals on Wheels America empowers its local member programs to strengthen their communities, one senior at a time.
Currently, Meals on Wheels delivers 4,300 meals to seniors across the greater Houston area each day, and the need for food is continuously increasing as more individuals are impacted by COVID-19.
“This pandemic has impacted all of us in unprecedented ways, and issues related to food accessibility for our most vulnerable neighbors are adding to the unease in our communities,” said Amegy Bank CEO Steve Stephens. “The Meals on Wheels program provides critical nourishment and support to this at-risk population, and Amegy Bank enthusiastically joins Interfaith Ministries in their efforts to address the increasing demand.”
Join us as we support our seniors by keeping them safe and a meal on their table.
