What do I need to open an account with Amegy Bank?

To complete this application:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older
  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Resident Alien with a Social Security Number
     

In addition, you will be asked to provide:

  • Previous home address (if you have lived at your current home address for less than two years)
  • U.S. Social Security Number
  • U.S. checking or savings account to fund the account
  • Current Amegy Bank account number (if applicable)
  • Current email address

Finally, you will need to sign and return the Signature Card that will be enclosed in your Welcome Packet.

Is my online application secure?

Amegy Bank uses encryption for online security. Encryption technology helps provide secure transmission of information along the Internet by encoding the transmitted data using a mathematical formula to scramble the data. Without a corresponding “decoder,” the transmission would look like nonsense text and would be unusable.

Encryption technology can be used for a host of applications, including electronic commerce (sending credit card numbers for orders or transmitting account information), e-mail messages and sensitive documents.

Encryption is utilized with the transmission of data from one party to another. The sender encodes the data by scrambling it and then sends it on. The receiver must decode the data with the correct “decoder” in order to read and use it. The effectiveness (or level of security) for encryption is measured in terms of how long the “key” is – the longer the key, the longer it would take for someone without the correct “decoder” to break the code. The length of the key is measured in bits (e.g., 40-bit encryption, the level of encryption used with many ordinary browsers, versus 128-bit encryption, the level of encryption required to use this application).

Can I set up Payable on Death (POD) beneficiaries?
Yes, you may set up POD beneficiaries during the application process.
What information do I need to open a joint account?

You’ll need the same information that’s required when opening an individual account—but you’ll need it for both applicants. For details, see question "What do I need to open an account with Amegy Bank?".

Can I change the information on my account application?

You have the option to edit your account information, including the initial deposit amount, prior to submitting the information to Amegy Bank. On the confirmation page, simply click on the “Change” button above the grouping of information you would like to change, and you will be permitted to change your input.

What happens after I complete the application?

Shortly after you complete your application, you will receive an email confirming that we received your application. Your account will be opened after we complete our review process and receive your initial deposit. You will receive your account number and information on additional services you may have selected approximately 7 – 10 business days after your account has been opened.

What is an External Transfer?

An External Transfer allows you to transfer funds electronically from your Amegy Bank account to an account you have at another financial institution. This transaction is processed through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) system, just like a direct deposit or an automated utility bill payment. Selecting "Yes" will automatically add the account specified to your external transfers list for future transfers.

Why is personal information required to open an account online?

Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. These measures also help to protect you against identity theft. For more information, select “What do I need to open an account with Amegy Bank?” above.

Is a minimum deposit required to open an account online?

Yes, we offer several different personal accounts online with minimum deposit requirements. See the chart below:

Once I make the opening deposit EFT, is my information saved in the system so I can make additional transfers?

Yes. On the “Funding” screen, if you select “Yes” to the question, “*Would you like to set up the account above within Online Banking for external transfers?” the account number that you provide will be set up for future external transfers.

When will I start earning interest?

We accrue interest daily on collected funds beginning not later than the business day on which we receive credit for such funds.

For all interest-bearing accounts, other than Time Deposits (Certificates of Deposit), within a tiered rate structure, the interest rate paid is based on the daily collected balance for that month or statement cycle.

Interest earned during each monthly or quarterly statement cycle will be credited to the account on the last day of the cycle or month pursuant to the terms of the account.

I’d like more information on eStatements?

Accounts opened online will be enrolled in online banking automatically to received electronic statement delivery, eStatements.

eStatements is a required feature of some accounts that are opened online.

Please note: Paper statements also are provided until you opt-out of paper statements and accept the terms and conditions for eStatement only delivery. Depending on your account requirement, if you do not opt-out of paper statement delivery, you will incur a $10 monthly charge to receive paper statements. To avoid the $10 monthly charge, you must complete the opt-out process within online banking at least two business days prior to your first statement cutoff date.

When is the opening deposit processed?

External Funds Transfer (EFT): EFT from your existing account at another financial institution to your new account will be processed within 5 business days after your account is opened.

From an Amegy Account: If you currently are an Amegy Bank customer and are transferring money from an existing account with us, the transfer will occur on the business day your account is opened.

  • By Check: Check(s) will be deposited to your account on the business day your account is opened.
  • By Wire: Funds will be deposited to your account on the business day your account is opened.
